Day 136. Sunday 12th January. From Wild Camp Los Gigantes to Municipal Camping Villa Regina. Argentina. Miles 126 or 202 k’s.

Jen referred to a troubled sleep last night. On getting into bed at around 10pm, my mind was wired and without sleep at 1.30am, looked at my watch and the thermometer which read 29.9degC. The wind was rattling the Caranex so I pulled the back door in. We must have drifted off, to wake at 7am.

These are special times, meeting up and sharing more than just a passing discussion with like minded travellers. They are heading south west, much of where we have come from.

A breakfast visitor..?

After breakfasting and sharing some more enjoyable time with them at 10am, it was time for them to hit the road. They have over 300k’s to their destination. Saying goodbye and hoping that we can do it again sometime, we drove the 8 rocky k’s to and across the dam and south east. They heading west.

Armed with advice as to where we can camp for a reasonable price, we headed for Municipal Camping at Villa Regina.

Filling with fuel along the way. Diesel prices have gone up again. I speculated that, the day before yesterday, with incredible queues waiting to fill up at every service station. The increase, about 45peso’s /Ltr. Hardly worth the effort to queue.

Different country again.

On the way we drive through a massive horticultural area. Apple, pears, citrus and grapes grown, yet we see no sign of roadside sales. Shame.

Another municipal camp site.

Camping Municipal Villa Regina is everything you could wish for….well, nearly. Cheap at 8000p per day and there is lots of shade. Facilities are less than basic. Lets hope the tranquility lasts as Rob & Lilian had party goers next to them the previous night, who turned their stereo off at 4am!!

It’s 6pm and 40deg. The Howling Moon side awning and nearby trees are providing some respite from the blazing sun. What a difference a degree of latitude makes!!

We have a large communal parakeet nest in the tree above us and occasionally, when the parents return to the nest, all hell breaks loose. I’ll try and get a photo.

I’m really looking forward to a rest day here, tomorrow. Pretty much from here on, we are going to be hitting the large population centers, which will create a whole different challenge.

Satchmo is singing “Kiss to build a Dream on” on the iPod and we are sharing a red with crackers and cheese.

Cricket. SriLanka exacted revenge on the Black Caps for their recent drubbing, by drubbing us. Nuf sed!
