Day 215. Monday April 1st, 2025. La Chacra Holandesa. Atlantida, to Montevideo and the port. Uruguay.

D-Day 1.

Thankfully it dawned calm and sunny, though cooler. This allowed us to finish drying off some items before packing, particularly the Caranex.
Once that was done, the solar panel mounted wind deflector could be disconnected from the charging system, and along with the three roof mounted storage boxes, loaded inside Poki. Auxiliary battery disconnected and terminals insulated. At 10.30am Jen had a message from the shipping agent, can we be at the port by 1.30pm instead of 2pm? Now, after progressing nicely, we are under pressure.

Off to the port.

At 11.30am after saying goodbye to the Italian family and leaving a note for the German Defender owner, (he had gone to town for supplies) we depart the now nearly empty campsite. The owners were nowhere to be found. No doubt tending to their gorgeous new foal.

Using Google Maps, the sat-nav could not find the address, we navigated to our meeting point with the shipping agent, or his apprentice arriving half an hour early.

Once the agent arrived we followed him into the port, though were turned away due to him not having the correct clearances. Retracing our steps, the clearances were acquired and we were able to proceed to where a container was waiting for us.

With wheels chocked and straps attached, front and back lets hope she arrives safely.

Also at the port waiting to load, the Canadian, Will Miller’s Toyota. A neat rig it is.

After some cajoling, the agent dropped us off at our hotel for the next two nights. The Oxford. What could be more English than that?..:)

After establishing ourselves in the room we headed out for food at 6pm. It was burgers, chips and icecream for $30 and a litre of Pilsner thrown in, at a friendly local bar.

As you can see, my glass….looks empty…:)

The owner, Spanish, was most interested in our thoughts on Uruguay. Also both the world’s political state, and particularly our country, and of Jacinda Ardern’s tenure? Interesting that he should know about Jacinda. Sadly, though we both initially backed her election, we feel that she has been, regrettably, a major influence on our growing racial division. Consequently, New Zealand has dropped many places as a ‘Happy Country’ on the world stage.

We both shared similar views on whats happening in the US. Some good, but mostly chaos.

Tonight New Zealand play the second 50 over match with Pakistan.

Tomorrow, we will explore the city on foot.
