Day 200. Monday 17th March. From Salto to a Thermal Pools and Hotel complex. 41k’s. South East. Uruguay. 26 miles or 41k’s.

To try and spin out the next couple of weeks, we are stopping at as many campsites as possible, between here and Montevideo, to reduce the time needed in the city, before shipping.

Last night, while in a deep sleep, we were woken by rain on our faces at around 3am and hurriedly wound down the roof vents. A novel experience. Sleep must have returned as waking at 8am the rain had stopped. By 9am all was dry again and a blue sky day beckoning.

As the shopping trip yesterday was only partially successful at Don Deigo’s store. Once packed, we headed into the city to find a proper shop. Not that it was easy. With one way streets and endless traffic lights, we managed to find a supermarket and complete the shopping list. I played Patience on the iPad while Jen shopped. I’m getting good at it, to Jen’s chagrin..:)

Thoughts are now turning to flights back to the UK. Jen will be leaving no stone unturned to find the best deal. Second of April is the target date, the day after Poki goes into a box. I don’t even want to think about that..:). It’ll be like losing an arm, not starting her every morning and loving driving her. You might say, we’ve bonded..:) Can you bond with an inanimate object?..:). If so, I have.

There are two largish thermal pools so In line with the one of the attractions about the camping complex, a swim once encamped, to wash the the perspiration of toil, away…! I know you don’t believe me. Rightly so. First the hot pool, then the tepid one. Sharing the pools with an English couple and two toddlers. Not much response to attempted communication from them.

There are several large Eucalypts beside us and in the upper branches, huge communal green parakeet’s nests and a cacophony of parakeet chatter from the inhabitants.

No more harvesting for this baby. It’s what happens to all old things, they get put out to pasture..:)

A wily fox, quietly looking for morsels under an adjacent bbq

I don’t profess to have any BBQ abilities, but once the fire had settled down, our dinner turned out quite well.

Tomorrow, we’ll take another step forward.

  1. Enjoy the slower pace of life while you can. In Mt Gambier at a friend of a friends 4 acres till thur morning, then on to Dartmoor and Fort O’Hare (theres that name again), a great free camp beside the Glenelg River. Koala’s and wild life galore, and a pub within walking distance. Diesel heater starts, but not easilly. Suspect a short. You can bond with a vehicle, it just might not bond with you. Don’t be sad.

  2. It’s looking like being a bit soggy down your way. Still, no worry’s mate…you have new airbags to keep the whole thing from sinking..:)

You are such a spoil sport, I was sure Poki cared…:)
