Day 199. Sunday, 16 March, 2025. At rest at Camping Hotel Posta del Dayman, Salto.

It’s lovely to be sleeping in Poki in a pleasant temperatures again. As we decided to stay put for another day here, there was no need to rush to get up.

Domestic Duties

As you will know by now, our days of rest are days when we do not drive, there are always plenty of domestic duties to perform, so they are not really lazy days.
In Brazil we managed to find good launderettes to do our washing. Today I had the mammoth task of washing everything by hand. Fortunately, it was a lovely sunny day, reaching 30 degrees , so getting everything dry was easy.

Dennis set about giving Poki a wash, but I have no idea why, just on one side!

Shopping

After lunch we walked to the nearest store, Don Diego’s, which I had been told sold “everything”. It was packed and well stocked, but not with everything we wanted. No bananas or oats.

Thermal Pools

On our return we bathed in the thermal pools for a while. The first one I tried was too hot to stay in for long. The other was much hotter than yesterday. A hotter day must be the cause. The area around Salto is famous for many thermal springs.

Crystal clear, warm thermal waters.

Overland Tour Operator

While in the pool a huge yellow overland truck pulled into the camp site. It looked exactly like the overlanding truck we had passed in Tajikistan on the Pamir Highway. Later we talked to the couple in the truck. I don’t know the name of the tour operator, but it is the same company. They operate, in South/Central America, Africa and Asia. There were no tourists on the truck, the couple with truck were the driver and guide/asstant. They had just finished a three month tour and will be going back to the U.K. The truck remains in South America to transport the next tour group.

Being Sunday we expected the pools and the campsite would be busy with local people. A few arrived, but it was still pretty quiet. Even the water park next door which plays annoying music all day, shuts down when it gets dark, about 7pm and all is silent.

Another Thermal Campsite

Tomorrow we will drive back into Salto to find a large supermarket, as we are out of most food items again. We will move to another camp at another thermal site. It is only a few kms away. We have two weeks to get to Montevideo. As it is less than 500 kms away, we are just moving slowly between campsites.

Sorry for an unexciting blog today.
