Yesterday’s Tour
Today I have sore calf muscles. I’m not fit, as have been spending too much time sitting in Poki. Climbing the 880 steep steps back up from the valley floor has taken its toll. Throughout the tour there were plenty of other steps into and out of the various waterfalls too. I was surprised that the amount of water flowing over the falls was so light, with the amount of rain we have had. It was good to see the water was still crystal clear, though, and not cloudy as we had been warned it might be.
We weren’t rushing this morning and at 8 am were the last people at breakfast. Hotel breakfasts tend to start of 5.30am and everyone seems to get up early. There are 3 things I will remember about Brazil. One is eating cake for breakfast, two the red earth and three soybeans.

Heading South
We are now heading south to Foz do Iguacu. Although we were on the road early and have been driving all day and have covered 226 miles, it doesn’t look very far on the map. It has been a bit of a winding route on smaller roads.
The largest town we passed through was Dourados. A Population of nearly 250,000 with an economy based on arable agriculture. Maize, soy and sugar cane. Lilian, today everywhere has rotated soy for corn (maize). There must be different planting methods in different areas.

Entering Dourados there were continuous speed bumps and exiting continuous traffic lights, everyone of which was red. Tedious.
Once again there are plenty of trucks. They are very large, mostly 25 or 26 meters in length, but there are many 30 meter monsters .

Hotel Nova Geracao
Throughout the day cloud built up and we had several showers. Later in the day, though, it cleared and was very hot.

We decided too hot for camping. Coming into the town of Juti we found the Hotel Nova Geracao. It is a modern building with a large car park in front. It’s a bit more than we paid in Bonito, but that was a good deal, at under 200BRL’s a night. This is 235BRL’s, about £32.
We cooked dinner in Poki in the car park and are planning on an early night. Tomorrow we hope to reach Foz do Iguacu. It’s another 395 kms and Google Maps tells me it’s in a different time zone.
