Leaving Sao Paulo
Poki had survived Sao Paulo unscathed in her undercover car park. Traffic leaving the city on a Saturday morning was not as bad as when we had driven in. Still heavy, but moving. One noticeable difference was the lack of constant toot toot tooting from manic motorcyclists. Obviously couriers in a hurry to deliver something. They all had boxes on the back of their bike, or their back.
For miles we seemed to be in a city environment. Tall tower blocks everywhere. It’s a 3/4 lane motorway heading for Río de Janeiro.

We passed through the city of Sao Jose dos Campos home to the Embraer Aircraft manufacturer, passing by the headquarters, with an aircraft model on prominent display.
Leaving the motorway
The Sat-Nav and Google Maps made our journey time to Paraty long for the distance. We wondered why. It must be the road conditions.
It was lovely to be off a busy road. For days we have travelled on busy dual carriageways and motorway. It was a pleasure to be on a quiet road again. Single track, mainly, but with some passing areas.
We soon discovered why progress would be slow as we climbed steadily, with beautiful country views. Winding up around hairpins, we still seem to he climbing when the coast was not that far away.

Eventually we started to descend. It was a beautiful drive through forrests of lush vegetation. Creepers, bamboo and beautiful flowering trees.

We passed several signs warning us to take care for wildlife. Anteaters, armadillo, capebara’s, monkeys, pumas. Of course, we saw none of them.

Looking down on Paraty
Paraty is obviously a busy tourist town. There was plenty of evidence of this as we drove in. Tours being advertised, handicraft shops etc. We headed straight for the campsite. Tomorrow we’ll go and investigate the old town.
