Day 158. Monday 3rd February, 2025. From Camping Catavento to Camping Caminho do Rei, Florianopolis. Brasil. Miles 82 or 131 k’s.

Another sticky night but the rain we experienced earlier in the evening, and threatened, never returned. We get through the night with a humidity of 72%!

The Guinea fowl returned en masse to give us a trumpeting send off at around 11am. Noisy blighters they are, with their beaks pursed and making a sustained honking noise, with heads pushed forward as if to accentuate their point.

I’d like to relate an interesting interaction we had with another motorist yesterday. After passing a small flatbed truck, a vehicle recovery truck, the driver immediately speeded up and re passed us. This went on for a while and I indicated, by hand gesture, that he was being a wanker and to bugger off! Well, a little further on we found ourselves in another long toll queue. This turkey in the truck pulled up beside us on the hard shoulder, drooling over Poki!! I laughed and the tension was gone..:) I think if we had more time, he would have gladly loaded Poki on the back of his truck and driven off..:)

to continue …

We decide to head for Florianopolis, to have a look at this Brasilian playground. Then to continue on up the coast towards the big cities. However on crossing bridge and driving into the centre of the city, we decide we like the place, and to investigate a camping area 27k’s away on the northern part of the island. The city is again, quite large with a population of 536,000. Sure, the weather is beautiful and it’s a a tourist mecca but the city is attractively presented, and seems to be well run.

The island Santa Catarina at 1.94million. Jen finds us a camp site only 200m from the beach and close to a supermarcardo. By 2.30 we are established in the camp and have had lunch.

After the obligatory trip to the supermarket then down to the beach to check it out. My god, it’s heaving!

On the street back from the each, 17 out of 21 cars have Argentinian number plates.
