There must be a mouse in our fridge. As soon as we buy food, it’s gone!! Off to the supermarket again. There’s something else we need to buy too. A tyre pressure gauge. I must have put it down by a wheel after taking the dust cap off and not picked it up again! The list of “missing” items is growing. To add insult to injury, I left my cap on the counter of the shop that sold me a new tyre pressure gauge!!! Jen is shaking her head..:)
Anyway, it dawned grey and overcast on waking, at 9am!! Packed and on the road sharp at midday. Destination today El Chalten. By that time the sun was shining again. El Chalten is the hub for those wanting to enjoy the Los Glaciers National Park. Our objective, to see Mount Fitz Roy.
After turning off the R40 proceeding along the R 23 the scenery in the distance becomes increasingly more amazing. Snow capped mountain peaks and turquoise lakes at their feet. Even more spectacular than Torres del Pain.
Since Jen discovered how to take a panoramic photo on her phone, her photo’s in that mode, are far better than on the Canon, with a moderate telephoto lens.
El Chalten nestled under the peaks.
Amazing rock strata.
El Chalten
It’s a tourist town with lots of new accommodation recently built. The road into it, is sealed, but our choice of motor camp is 8ks along a dusty road closer to Mt Fitz Roy.
Mt Fitz Roy was named by Argentine explorer Francesco Moreno in 1877 in honour of Robert Fitz Roy who sailed up the Santa Cruz river towards the mountain, from the Atlantic coast in 1834.
Our accommodation tonight is in a grotty campsite 2 k’s from the base of Mt Fitz Roy. It’s the most expensive camp in our journey to date. We are no more that 80m from the dusty road and the traffic both ways, is nearly constant. I’m sure it will stop once the light fades. We set out to walk the 2k’s or so to be able to see the mountain but the sun is right behind it, making it unphotographable. We’ll drive to it in the morning, when the sun will be from the opposite quarter.
Two cricket series of interest. Aussie playing India in a test and NZ playing SriLanka in a 50 overs match. Fast forward. Both NZ and Aus. won their games.

Of all the things you have lost bro, I bet you miss your mind the most! What was mum’s saying, ‘you would lose your head if it wasn’t screwed on’. Put your camera away, leave your hat on your head and concentrate. You listening old fart? Hope you have a spare ignition key hidden somewhere. Indian team not happy and Oz made hard work of it. Time for some old guard to step aside, in both teams.
