Day 109. Monday 16th December. Beagle Channel on Day 2 on SM Vega.

One small section of food available…

So this morning a trip to reception to try and get some sort of connection. Once that was fixed, my message from last night, went, and I was also able to find the latest cricket score. New Zealand in a strong position. About time, but it’s not over till you hear her singing…:)

Off to the laundrette to wash some clothes. Three machines both wash & dry. Excellent. All done, in just over an hour.

The sea is rough. 4m swells. We are not too high above the water. Incredibly there are Albatross skimming the water. Jen woke me at around 1am this morning. We went to bed with the door open to try and reduce the room temperature and the thick duvet. It was reasonably calm when we went to bed, but by 1pm the wind was screeching like a banshee and we were rolling from one side of the bed, to the other. The curtains horizontal, Jen was worried the waves would come in!!

“Go back to sleep..:).”

Then stuff started sliding off tables and it was time to get up and secure it and shut the door. Removing the thick duvet from it’s cover. We woke at 8am, still tired.

Some briefings on different aspects of ship life.

We get to meet the captain and be introduced to his team. A cosmopolitan lot, the crew. The skipper with a Scandinavian name, but Estonian. The important thing, all communication is in English.
The passengers are probably a split of 50/50m Asian and European. American, Dutch, Russian, Aussie a couple of Brits. Think I’m the only Kiwi. We are not embarrassed by our attire. It’s a very relaxed looking group of passengers, of a wide range of ages. The staff are super friendly and efficient. They are also multi tasking.
