Day 53. Sunday 20th Oct. 2024. Aguas Calientes. Peru.

Jen has given a pretty comprehensive description of the extortion that is being painlessly administered to an adoring and accepting public.

This morning, waking at 4.15am, so we are ready to queue for 6.00am ☹️. Breakfast at 5.45am and Jen hurried off to join the right to be “admitted” tomorrow. After finishing my scrambled eggs, I headed off to join her. There were people everywhere, but no Jen! I thought, funny, perhaps she has found a more exciting companion.😢.

With my tail between my legs, I went back to the hotel. My ‘new’ phone, Jen’s old one, does not have a SIM card, so to message her, had to use the hotel wifi. All was well, she had been invited into a big hall to queue in a special queue.
So, now with another piece of paper, we are free for the day till we have to go back at 3pm to queue again, to obtain the tickets.

The day reasonably free

It’s now 9am and we are hungry already…so, after wandering around for an hour, and after a cup of coffee, a blueberry milkshake, and an apple pie each, we head back to the hotel room, to sleep…😂.

Is anyone still awake? Are you getting the picture? Yes, at 3pm we do it all again. When purchasing the tickets for M.P. we are given the option of being admitted to one only, of three parts of the ruins!!! Though, there are seven options. Not only that, our time in the chosen area is restricted to two hours. We select option 2. We later discovered this is the most comprehensive option. Pure luck or…?
In the morning, our bus to the site departs at 9am, perhaps, for a 10am site entry. The bus queues this morning were 200m long.

OK, so now we have bus tickets, to and from, US$24 each, and now we need train tickets to get back to Poki.
Off to the booking office to spend US$79 each for a 4.20pm train departure back to the camp, and Poki. This means a 6.10pm arrival. It should be dark by then so a 2k walk on a rough dusty road, should about cure us of any expected euphoria. Dare we hope for a Tuk Tuk.

While wandering around again in the afternoon, a train pulled in disgorging a thousand or so, “opportunities”..😂. The Peruvian economy just got a massive injection. It will be interesting, when we have time, to tally up the total cost. On a very positive note, we have really enjoyed the break from driving and camping. It’s not to say that we don’t enjoy that, but we are feeling….refreshed?

There will be photos later.

Sport

It’s been a pretty good day or so, for Kiwi’s.

Cricket. We managed to score the 107 runs required to beat India. It’s the first time that has happened in 36 years.
Woman’s T20 World Cup. We now hold that, beating South Africa. At least we beat them at something..😊.

Netball. Our net ballers beat Australia by 15 points. They usually beat us.

Yachting. We retained the America’s Cup.

I wonder if Poki is still in tact? 😂
