Not much to report for the day.
A 15min walk to a shopping precinct. Not the big glitzy supermarket, but lots of Ma & Pa shops selling most things, between them. We have had trouble finding a gas BBQ lighter. No longer. We now have one, plus an aerosol can of gas to refill it. Oats. The only oats we could find in the supermarkets to date, are the rolled variety. We prefer whole oats. In a cramped hole-in-the-wall shop we noticed bulk rice etc and poking around found a 1.8kg plastic bag full or the real stuff. Jen found two large cobs of black corn.
A few other bit’s n pieces and back to the hotel car park.
Sadly the black corn turned out to be a waste of time After cooking them for at least 30min they were as tough as when we started. Interestingly the juice from them resembles blood. They are supposed to be tasty, but these may have been months old?..:)
A few days ago I included a photo of a huge mango. We cut it and ate it tonight, for desert, with some lovely strawberries and yogurt. The mango particularly, absolutely delicious.
Staying in the last hotel in chimbote, the windows looked like they had been treated with a pattern for privacy.
Not so, they were rain streaked dirt on the outside, yet the inside of the hotel was gleamingly spotless.

Heading to Lima tomorrow.
There has been no news on the outcome of the protests in Lima today. The camp owner has not been around to give us upated news. I’m hoping we can get away early in the morning and hit the city before any residual protesters are able to marshal. If we can find safe lodgings, and protests have settled down, we’ll spend a day looking around Lima, before heading for the hills in Southern Peru and the seriously impressive sights.
It’s been surprisingly cool. Sea fog descended over the town and jerseys and cardigans were needed. It’ll be another great night for sleeping. We luxuriated in bed this morning, till 10am!!
