Jeez I had the best sleep last night. Woke at 4am but then crashed again till 7am. Thought you needed to know that…:)
I watched some of the last Springbok v All Blacks game on YouTube this morning before Jen decided we needed to head for a museum, nearby. What an amazing museum it was. The Royal Tombs of Sipan, Museum.
The site of excavation, only 17miles from Chiclayo, was discovered in 1987. The museum inaugurated in 2002. Built in the form of a Mochen tomb. Archaeologists followed tomb robbers to discover fabulous treasures and artifacts, in a remote location. They were master metal-smiths, fusing copper, gold & silver, to create beautiful artifacts. The Moche period lasted from 100AD to 700AD. Thought to be destroyed by an El Ninio period that inundated canals, crops and infrastructure.
Following, a series of photos from exhibits :-

The museum, built with a US$5m investment and the help of Germany and Spain, has three floors.

Crafted in gold, and lapis lazuli from Chile

Intricate bead work made from the tiniest of beads, with holes only visible through a magnifying glass.

After and before?

Finely beaten gold.

After two hours is was time to make tracks. The original objective for the day was to make Trujlillo 290k’s away. Alas, with a late start and endless Topies, (speed bumps) and huge sugar cane trucks doing 40kph, we decided to call in quits for the day, in the only town with a campsite, for miles.

En route we passed this deserted circus tent. The Israeli’s fundraising?
Our camp for the next two nights.
Our camp for the night is in the seaside and surfing town of Pacsamayo. We are camped in a central courtyard, now surrounded by vehicles. We’ll stay here tomorrow as our rest day. I’ve already given Poki it’s first clean for weeks. Badly needed it was.
At 6pm it’s cooler, only 20deg and we are both very happy about that.
Tomorrow we will do some shopping at a nearby supermarket and look for anything that needs fixing. Oh, and a haircut..:). Tonight will be the first night sleeping in Poki, since Quito?!

Sounds like your journey South is going well! After all the little towns, I am sure you will enjoy the big supermarkets and everything Lima has to offer 🙂
Have a nice rest day!
Hi Pam & Paul,
How about airmailing another food parcel of bagels & bread?…:)
All going well.
Best to you both from us.
