Day 35. Wednesday 2nd October. Tarqui. Ecuador. 0 miles.

A day of rest.

A great nights sleep in a comfortable bed and not a dog heard.

by the time we surfaced at around 8.30am, the kitchen was a hive of activity. Paul and Pam make a range of breads, bagels, crisps and other products for a non profit charity, helping to provide sustenance for 170 families in need. Our breakfast was delicious.

So today, in lovely surroundings we relaxed and around 1pm, enjoyed a drive into the city, taking in panoramic views. It’s clearly a cultural and very well run city, We were impressed by the level of maintenance carried out by City Fathers. In another example of this, the water is safe to drink from the tap. Perhaps the only city in South America to claim that credit. The country is however suffering greatly due to an extended period of drought. Electricity supplies are being curtailed with structured power outages. Lets hope the current rains we are starting to experience, help bring an end to those outages. It seems, not unlike South Africa, maladministration also has had influence. A recent country leadership change hopefully, will arrest this.

Pronounced Kwenka.

Cuenca correctional facility.

A little vehicle maintenance.

When in Bogota, and in a private car park, we must have rolled over a bolt on the ground and had to have a patch put on the tyre. In order to get underway again that day, I put the repaired tyre on the back spare position. The driving wheels on the vehicle have very heavy military grade rims, but not the spares. To reduce the sprung load carried, I returned the repaired wheel to the road.

At 8.20pm the power and lights went out, so in ‘Lucy Light’ we sat discussing all sorts till 9.30pm, when bed beckoned.

It’s been a great day and we will head off tomorrow morning, revitalised. We even both undertook our routine exercises, to try and stave off rapidly advancing physical decay…:)

  1. Glad to hear you have had a relaxing break, it’s a long way to go. Just hope Poki keeps on keeping on. Any chance of running a diagnostic scan over her? I have to take Jen up for 1 today, but I don’t suppose they are the same. Apart from Jen’s being temperamental that is. (Only joking Jen, you are the glue that holds the old guy together).

  2. The glue is showing signs of melting…😂
Was just thinking today, how well she is going…Poki that is 😉 Changing the spare wheel must have been beneficial. But yes, a scan would be worth doing.
