Monday 5th August. Crespo. Cartagena.

As Jen mentioned, our new temporary residence is nothing glamorous, however the sleeping quarters are larger and brighter. Wifi is better too. The aircon works fine and we have a shared kitchen to prepare and cook food. What else could we possible wish for…? Just one thing…Poki..:)

It’s a 3 night stay here and while we are not a hundred meters from the sea, had not visited it, till this morning.

We decided it would be a good thing to go for a swim after going shopping.

Novel rubbish bin.

It’s obviously a while since he’s been riding, as he’s a bit rusty..:)

Interesting combination!

In search of a SIMM card.

Boring stuff for any readers but the success of a day is largely defined by trivial searches, for food and things. Today’s search is for a shop that sells SIMM cards. There are shops about 600m away so we set off in sunshine.

The objective, a SIMM card for Jen’s phone. Mine’s not modern enough to take a SIMM card as it runs on steam..:). It only took four shops before we found one that sells SIMM cards but after buying the card, we had to wake the young lady outside who was asleep on her till, to purchase 30gb of data for about NZ$12.

The next challenge a USB ‘adaptador’ plug so we can charge phones and tablets directly, as the multiplug we bought with us from the UK, while versatile, seems to be unable to transfer enough energy to charge said appliances.

Finally, the next objective, another attempt to get cash from an ATM. The last time we tried was without success. However, this time, bingo. So after the obligatory commission, the bank also charged a ‘donation.’ How generous!!

Back from shopping.

By the time we had completed that circuitous exercise, the heavens were looking ominous. Ducking into a nearby cafe we watched as the rain poured, lightening flashed and thunder roared. It didn’t take long for the drains to be unable to cope, flooding the intersection in front of us.

Within an hour the rain had passed and we wandered back home. While it’s hot and muggy a swim is no longer an attractive option. Maybe we’ll wait until we get to Santa Marta.

Jen has arranged 5 night’s accommodation in the more northern city of Santa Marta. A coastal city with reputedly, amazing beaches. Its an opportunity for us to more effectively spend our time waiting for Poki. So tomorrow morning, we catch a minibus for the approximately 200k, 5 hour journey, via Barranquilla. Another change of scenery and new experience.
